Subramanian Swamy: The case against Jayalalitha

Sorry for delay readers. Today i am going to brief you guys about the case against Jayalalitha.


Jayalalitha and Swamy were best friends during 90s.By taking the help of Jayalalitha swamy brought down the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 90s. The relationship between the swamy and Jayalalitha got broken when Swamy found the real face of Jayalalitha. Swamy found that Jayalalitha as made alot of Disproportionate assets by using her power as a chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Swamy prepared a documents for the case and filled a case against Jayalalitha in 1996. Earlier the case was looked after by the Tamil Nadu court but the opposition objected it by saying that if the case was looked after in the Tamil Nadu court the case doesnt get justic so it went to supreme court. The Supreme court decided and handed over the case to the neighbkouring state karnataka  Court. In 1997 CBI raid her house and found 800kg of Silver, 28kg of Gold, 750pair of shoes, 10,500 sarees, 91watches and many other property documents.

The case took a period of 18year to produce it final judgement in which it finds Jayalalitha was found guilty. The trial court passed a judgement sentencing 4years of simple imprisonment and a fine 100crore to Jayalalitha, Sasikala Natarajan, Iiavarasi and Sudhakaran. when the court as passed a judgement telling that she was guilty. The supporters of Jayalalitha destroyed the property of karnataka government and made huge public violence. Later the judgement was challenged by  Jayalalitha in High Court. In 2015 the High Court passed a judgement telling that Acquitted of all charges and bail bonds discharged. The case was again challenged by Swamy in supreme court. The supreme court of India on 14 Feb 2017 over ruled the Karnataka High Court judgement. Sasikala and the other accused were convicted and sentenced to four years imprisonment, as well as being fined 10crore each. The case against Jayalalitha was abated because she had died but fines were levied on her properties. Jayalalitha died on 5 December 2016.

The Karnataka Government nearly spend 12.04crore while conducting her case in Karnataka from looking after her security, advocates and all things. Later on it was paid by the Tamil Nadu Government.
