US to offer Tomahawk Cruise Missiles to India

Source:   IDRW.ORG

A recent article in the IDRW news website which surfaced in websites my take section where India is going to negotiate for the Tomahawk missile systems from the US on the 2+2 dialogue stage.  The article is rerepresented below with original link in the source and thus a possible discussion is embedded into the original article itself.  Though it is too early for India to trust the americans we can see the fate of the Pakistani's today from as an Nato status ally in bush era to todays foe of america it can be turned down any time.  However US was in great help to us in the past and in many of the issues despite many scuffles with India.  Today US is the biggest market for the Indian IT technologies which are a big source of National industry.  Keeping everything the assumption of acaquiring the Tomahawk missile system is left for you guys.

After India decided to procure NASAMS-II missile systems to safeguard crucial facilitites in capital New Delhi on recommendations of Washington, comes another offer of the deal which is likely to be discussed in India during 2+2 Dialogue between India and USA on September 6 in New Delhi.  The Naval variant of the missile will be offered to the Indian Navy.

Tomahawk will be offered to be deployed on frontline warships and submarines against surface targets according to the report on IDRW.  If a deal on Tomahawk does take place then Indian Navy will be the third operator after United States and the Royal Navy to induct them in its service.

Tomahawk missiles have made its debut in first Gulf War in 1991 and from then on have been part of every US military operation.  Legendary cruise missile system has gone through several rounds of major upgrades and major improvements over hte years and Tomahawk Block IV is presently in production and will continue to remain the mainstray of hte offensive platforms of the Unites States Navy for decades to come.

Tomahawk sale to India will come as a shocker to many close Nato allies of the United States of America who in past have been denied the sale of the missile system by Washington.

If India does procure Tomahawk subsonic cruise missiles form the United States of America does that not mean that indegenous development of Nirbhay subsonic  cruise missile project has been cancelled.  It is likely that the Nirbhay project will be carried on by DRDO as in national interest as the Tomahawk relies on the US GPS Nirbhay's operate on the indian navigation systems.

It is mostly unlikely that India is going for an Tomahawk offer form the USA.  Since it already has the Klub missiles capable of launching from all naval platforms but US is pushing hard to promote itself as an strategic ally that could replace Russia which is a time tested ally of India since the 1971 war.  If offered a US carrier India could negotiate it to just operational costs to keep it alive for any future US endeavours in the Indian Ocean.  Mr. Subramanian Swamy could well negotiate with the americans as he has an american ideology knowledge in dealing with the economics..
