it was to test the preparedness and to tweak the pakistan airspace. pakistan in the other hand had planned the similar thing to tweak the indian airforce. which were under equipped as they were on a home back mode. and had not affixed with much weapons.
sukhois were planned to fly much closer to the airspace of pakistan. pakistan had kept its two squadrons of fighter fully battle ready to make the sukhois divert their course. pakistan was awaiting to avenge its navy's humiliation in arabian sea when pak navy provoked the indian navy fleet.
the time came on the sukhois were refueled in the iranian airforce station. tehran. one sukhoi fighter jet experienced some technical snag and it was grounded by the crew to be airlifted. while another sukhoi reamined for the company of the aircraft. the remaining six aircrafts were partially armed as they were going near the pakistan airspace.
when the indian fighters took off from the tehran to mumbai over the sea. the limited range of the tejas forced for an many mid air refuelings. on the other hand pak had deployed a squadron of j 17 and 8 aircrafts each of mirage and f 16's
